Doorway Pages

Doorway pages (also known as satellite or gateway pages) are web pages created for the sole purpose of ranking for specific search queries without offering real value to visitors. They redirect or direct users to a different landing page. Typical examples include near-identical pages targeting different cities where only the city name changes, pages optimized for specific keywords that all redirect to the same sales page, or microsites targeting specific queries that funnel traffic to the main site. Google specifically targeted doorway pages in its March 2015 update and considers them a violation of its guidelines. The line between doorway pages and legitimate local landing pages can be blurry: local pages with unique content, local testimonials, and area-specific information are acceptable.
